We Love Hackney a not for profit company set up by local residents, has instructed a Specialist Public Law Solicitors to apply to Judicially Review  Hackney Borough Councils Licensing Policy.

The policy enlarged the Special Policy Area for Shoreditch alongside a “core hours policy” which limits operational hours to 11pm on weekdays, midnight at weekends and imposes a 10pm curfew for external areas.

The proposed action is to be crowdfunded via Crowd Justice and We Love Hackney cite “We have over 4000 supporters – local people taking a stand to keep Hackney diverse, independent and fun.” and amongst other points argue that  “...Hackney Council failed to consider the impact on young people, who are more likely to use and work in the night time economy, or on the diverse range of venues that serve our LGBTQ+ and minority communities.”

We will keep you updated as to any developments.
